Upper Bolsa Chica Wetlands Since 1996, Shea Homes
has planned to build 170 houses on the 50-acre site, located near the intersection of Graham and Slater. Although approved by the Huntington Beach City Council in October 2002, the
project and its land use zoning must first be approved by the California Coastal Commission. The hearing before the Commission has been delayed numerous times, and each delay
provides new opportunity for the Land Trust to gather historical and pictorial data for Commission staff to consider. The primary issues at the site concern the extent of wetlands
and ESHA (environmentally sensitive habitat area).
Public participation is *vital* to the Land Trust's efforts in preserving this property. We count
on your presence at day-long Commission hearings, which may be held anywhere from San Pedro to San Diego. If you wish to help with the Upper Wetlands preservation effort, please
contact the Land Trust office at 714-846-1001.
