Upper Bolsa Chica Wetlands
Since 1996, Shea Homes has planned to build 170 houses on the 50-acre site, located near the intersection of Graham and Slater. Although approved by the Huntington Beach City Council in October 2002, the project and its land use zoning must first be approved by the California Coastal Commission. Thanks to the relentless efforts of the Bolsa Chica Land Trust, in 2007 the Commission decided that more acreage needed to be set aside as conservation than what the City had approved.  The developer's new plan is for 111 houses on 27 acres, with four (4) acres restored as wetlands.

But the drive to preserve this piece of Bolsa Chica is not over yet! More meetings and public hearings are forthcoming as the developer pushes forward.  Public participation is *vital* to the Land Trust's efforts in preserving this property for wildlife and future generations. If you wish to help with the Upper Wetlands preservation effort, please contact the Land Trust office at (714) 846-1001.
